The late Michael Calvert, a wildlife-friendly farmer from the Ards Peninsula, put up a barn owl nest box over nine years ago close to rough grass margins and it’s now home to a breeding pair of barn owls.

The birds have produced chicks over three consecutive years – a first for a man-made nest box in Northern Ireland – and we hope they will continue to breed successfully.

Michael installed a webcam on a branch overlooking the nest site which has allowed us to get a special insight into the lives of these elusive birds and witness the magic moments of raising owlets successfully in this period.
