Niel Morrow, AES joins pupils from Whitehead PS at an Energy in Nature workshop
Pupils from Whitehead Primary School are discovering the power of energy in nature, as part of a new series of education workshops delivered by the Ulster Wildlife Trust and sponsored by AES Kilroot and Ballylumford.
Using interactive activities and fun games, P6 and P7 pupils from schools throughout Carrickfergus and Larne will be exploring the different sources of energy and how it is used by wildlife, from the growth of plants and fluttering of butterflies, to the hibernation of hedgehogs.
The workshops will also give pupils an insight into the impacts of energy production on wildlife, and the importance of saving energy in school and at home to reduce climate change.
Geoff Scott, Marketing Manager with the Ulster Wildlife Trust said: “We are delighted to have teamed up with AES for these new and exciting workshops which are designed to make learning about energy in nature not just simple and fun, but truly inspirational. Energy after all makes our world go round and nature holds the key to its future. We hope the workshops will bring science to life for the pupils and spark a lifelong interest in the natural environment.”
Neil Morrow with AES said: “As a responsible local company, with power stations in Ballylumford and Kilroot, we are keen to encourage local schoolchildren to become interested in energy and how it has an impact on the living world around us. The ‘Energy in Nature’ workshops are a great way for us to facilitate learning through nature, whilst also helping bring our commitment to sustainable business principles to life.”
AES has been working in partnership with the Ulster Wildlife Trust since 2005 to help protect local wildlife within its grounds following the discovery of a rare bee orchid, as well as supporting the charity’s work as a platinum corporate member.
