We are currently seeking new volunteer Board members who have the skills and interest necessary to join the Board of Directors of Ulster Wildlife Limited. Members of Ulster Wildlife have the opportunity to put themselves forward or nominate another member to join. The 16 volunteer Board members make up Council, the governing body of the organisation, and provide vital support and direction to our work.

Each year we hold elections to Council at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and if there are more nominations than vacant places there is a ballot. If there are fewer nominations than vacant places, then the names of the people nominated will be put before the AGM for approval. The AGM will be held on 5 October this year, further details of which will appear on our website.

It is important that members of Council possess appropriate skills and experience for making strategic decisions, as well as bringing a wide range of expertise to the role. Expertise and skills we are currently seeking include marketing, fundraising, media, health/wellbeing, and/or property and estate management. We also need to ensure we maintain a good balance between genders, perceived cultural backgrounds and ages.

Currently we have fifteen places filled. Council have the option to co-opt members to Council during the year if any places are vacant. In line with our Articles of Association, one quarter of Council must stand down each year. . At this year’s AGM, Lucinda Blakiston-Houston is standing down after eight years’ service and three members of Council are standing down and are available for re-election.

To assist with the selection of appropriate persons to be proposed for election at the AGM, Council requests that any nominations to Council are received by 7 September 2016. The nominations should be proposed and seconded by an Ulster Wildlife member and should have the nominee’s declared consent. All nominees must be members of Ulster Wildlife. A brief biography should also be included and sent to the Chief Executive.
