Under the Sea - Snorkel Safari Groomsport

Posted: Wednesday 1st August 2018 by LivingSeas

On 23 June, the Living Seas and Grassroots Challenge Teams, teamed up, to take six keen Young Farmers Clubs of Ulster Explorkellers on a Snorkel Safari at Groomsport Beach, Co. Down.

We got all geared up (and nearly melted with the heat) and were eager to get into the water. It was my first time ever snorkelling in the sea, so I was both nervous and excited. After we were placed with our buddies and were advised on safety, we headed down to the shore. My nerves settled almost immediately when I put my head down beneath the surface! It was amazing to see all the marine life from a new perspective.

We saw flat fish, hermit crabs, shore crabs, dog whelks, limpets and lots of different types of seaweed – all a great help for my marine wildlife ID-ing skills.

My first ever snorkel safari left me feeling feeling fin-tastic! I look forward to the rest of the summer for more fun in the water.
