Families seeking a wild day out are invited to Bog Meadows Nature Reserve, in west Belfast, on Saturday 26 August for a host of free and fun-filled activities, organised by Ulster Wildlife.

Children and adults can discover more about the weird and wonderful wildlife that lives in this urban nature haven by taking part in pond-dipping and bird ringing. They can also meet amazing birds of prey at the World of Owls’ display, get up close to animals from St James’ City Farm and find out about our fascinating underwater life with Ulster Wildlife’s Living Seas’ team.

Other exciting activities on offer include archery, bubble football and laser tag – all free of charge. Children can also get their face painted or create wild works of art in the craft tent, climb on board the Emergency Services vehicles or simply be bowled over by bush craft or wood work demonstrations.

Deborah McLaughlin, Nature Reserves Officer with Ulster Wildlife said, “This is the last of our ‘Summer of Wildlife’ events at Bog Meadows and is guaranteed to be a fantastic day out for all the family. We would encourage everyone from the local community to come along, anytime from 11am to 3pm, take advantage of the free activities on offer and enjoy this valuable asset on their doorstep.”

Councillor Brian Heading, Chair of West Belfast DPCSP who funded the event said, “The West Belfast Policing and community safety partnership (PCSP) aims to create safer, shared communities and are pleased to support this project by Ulster Wildlife. Our small grants fund projects that prevent, reduce and address community safety issues and help people feel safer. Small grants are the perfect way for us to support community and voluntary groups at a local level and to help build relationships between community voluntary groups and PCSP’s.”

The Wild Summer Fun Day at Bog Meadows Nature Reserve runs from 11am to 3pm. Entrance to the nature reserve is via Milltown Row or Donegal Road (beside KFC).

There is very limited parking on site, but additional parking is available in St. Louise’s College car park off the Falls Road.
