Nature Notes 2 February 2021

Observations from staff and members on our Nature Reserves this week.

Nature reserves may look completely wild, but our 19 reserves across Northern Ireland are actually carefully managed by a dedicated team. We protect, restore and create a mix of habitats where wildlife can thrive.

Bog Meadows Nature Reserve

Our Nature Skills Trainees  have been busy chipping lots of material left over from our hedgelaying activities and clearing litter from the stream and freshwater ditches. Litter is not only unsightly but is also very harmful to wildlife, so please help us look after this wonderful wetland nature reserve and its wildlife by using the bins provided or taking your litter home.

Why not keep up-to-date with the latest news, activities and wildlife sightings at Bog Meadows by following our dedicated Facebook page? ~ Deborah McLaughlin, Bog Meadows Community Engagement Officer

Slievenacloy Nature Reserve

This little Pied Wagtail joined us last week while burning the scrub pile at Slievenacloy. It was having a great time eating all the invertebrates that appeared after we removed the pile ~ Ronald Surgenor, Nature Reserves Officer
