What is ShoreNI?
ShoreNI is a citizen science project led by Ulster Wildlife that invites people across Northern Ireland to explore and protect our coastal habitats.
By taking part in shore surveys, you’ll help monitor marine life, track environmental changes, and contribute to vital conservation efforts – all while enjoying time by the sea.
Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or a curious beginner, ShoreNI offers a hands-on way to connect with nature and make a real difference for our shores.
Can anyone take part?
Anyone! Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a family looking for a fun outdoor activity, a school group, or just curious about marine life. ShoreNI is open to everyone. No prior experience is needed, and we provide all the guidance and resources you need to get started.
When can I take part?
You can take part any time of year, but the best time is during low tide, when more of the shore is exposed. Check local tide times before heading out and keep an eye on the weather for a safe and enjoyable experience. Aim for once or twice a month on your local shore.
We'll provide lots more information and guidance when you sign up.
