Orchids (c) Ryan Bradley

Observations from staff, volunteers and members on our Nature Reserves this week.

Nature reserves may look completely wild, but our 19 reserves across Northern Ireland are actually carefully managed by a dedicated team. We protect, restore and create a mix of habitats where wildlife can thrive.

Straidkilly Nature Reserve

There's a fantastic display of common spotted orchids in the glades at Straidkilly Nature Reserve this year – well worth a trip to go see them. A coterie of wild orchids and stunning sea views....what more would you want? ~ Ryan Bradley, Nature Reserves Officer

Ulster Wildlife Office

We have a mini nature reserve at our Belfast office. Butterflies like this small tortoiseshell are regular visitors to our herb and wildflower planters.

Gardens can become part of a wild network, creating vital green spaces for wildlife. Even the smallest space, like this, can have a big impact! Want to #LetNatureIncto your garden? Sign up to our campaign
