Strangford Lough Wildlife Safari - exclusively for Ulster Wildlife members
About the event
This stretch of water is rich in wildlife, and we’ll be on the lookout for seals basking on the rocks and a variety of seabirds, including terns, herons, and guillemots.
We'll pass the famous Routen Wheel, where the swirling tides give a dramatic display of the Lough’s power – a real highlight for anyone interested in the natural forces at play in this special place.
Keep your eyes peeled for Squiggle and Squash, a pair of bottlenose dolphins who’ve become regular – and rather showy – visitors to Portaferry and Strangford. If we’re lucky, they might make an appearance!
At Ballyquintin Point, we’ll stop for a closer look at the resident seal colony through binoculars, before turning back with the tide. The outward journey will be nice and relaxed, giving us time to enjoy the views and wildlife. On the return leg, we’ll travel a bit closer to the Strangford side, passing Cloughy Rocks – another great spot for seal sightings.
A perfect trip for nature lovers, bird watchers, and anyone looking to enjoy the unique beauty and biodiversity of Strangford Lough.
