NIE Networks helps employees become more 'wildlife aware'

NIE Networks has been working with Ulster Wildlife to train employees about some of Northern Ireland’s most protected wildlife, as part of our ongoing partnership.

An easy-to-read ‘Wildlife Aware’ booklet and short training induction were delivered to 1,200 employees in January. The creation of the booklet is the start of a more focused approach to biodiversity with employees and contractors to highlight the key species of plants, birds and animals in our countryside.

Celebrating the launch of the ‘Wildlife Aware’ booklet, Kevin McDowell, Head of Health, Safety & Environment at NIE Networks, said, “Feedback from our employees on this training has been extremely positive. At NIE Networks, we have hundreds of people working in the local countryside every day and we’re conscious of the importance of working in harmony with the local environment. It is really useful to have an organisation with the expertise of Ulster Wildlife working alongside us.”

Vickie Chambers, Supporter Relationship Manager at Ulster Wildlife, said, “We are all about championing the local environment and helping people to live and work alongside nature. We work with a number of local businesses to support their efforts in delivering strong biodiversity programmes within their business.

We’re really delighted to be working with NIE Networks, one of Northern Ireland’s biggest utilities, to support them in their bid to work in harmony with nature.
