Ulster Wildlife and Power NI are working together to protect native species

Wildlife is declining at an alarming rate, and Northern Ireland is now ranked as one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with 12% of species threatened with extinction. Many of our most iconic native species are facing habitat loss, persecution, and other threats to their survival.

Our red squirrels, barn owls and hedgehogs are in urgent need of help to ensure that they can thrive in the future.

Power NI has pledged its support to Ulster Wildlife’s efforts to protect native species, through financial support and by helping to raise public awareness about barn owls, hedgehogs and red squirrels, and encouraging the public to report their sightings.

Report your wildlife sightings

Together, we will:

Raise awareness of native species conservation in Northern Ireland.

Encourage the public to take action by reporting their sightings of these key species, to help us better understand how they are faring.

Help families to understand the actions they can take to help native species at home, through Power NI's Green Guardians initiative.

Provide opportunities for Power NI staff to support Ulster Wildlife's species conservation work by volunteering with our species surveys and on our Nature Reserves.

And much more!
