Our favourite mammal needs a helping hand!

Last year, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) updated hedgehogs’ status on its Red List to "Near Threatened". Globally, that means that, without urgent action, our favourite mammal will become an endangered species.

Help tackle the threats to our prickly pals and claim a FREE hedgehog adoption pack that we are giving away to the first 20 hog helpers who join by Saturday 10 May, 10pm.

How you can help bring 'hogs back!

  • Your support can help create more homes, food and shelter for hedgehogs through our Let Nature In wildlife gardening campaign, which is giving homeowners and landowners the tools to manage their green spaces in ways that work for the gardener’s best friend.
  • You will also help continue the vital research of the Irish Hedgehog Survey, which we are completing with the University of Galway to build an island-wide picture of how and where we can better offer local hedgehogs the assistance that they so desperately need.

Why Ulster Wildlife?

Between 2023-24, we restored 40 hectares of peatland, locking away CO₂ and creating future habitat for local wildlife.

With 14,000 members supporting our mission to bring nature back at land and sea, we are the largest local conservation charity at home.

Making a difference, together

In 2023-24, members' support helped us to:

  • Fledge 35 barn owl chicks through habitat management and nest-box erection
  • Manage 850 hectares of land for wildlife – equivalent to 1,190 football pitches – to create homes for local nature
  • Monitor over 2,000 seabirds on Isle of Muck Nature Reserve, including kittiwakes, gannets, puffins and razorbills
